Introduction and Properties
Permethrin, with the trade name Ambush, is a non-systemic insecticide from the group of synthetic pyrethroids, which controls a wide range of insects and arthropods by contact and digestive action. In general, this compound can be used to control arthropods, lepidopterans, dipterans, bees and sucking insects on tobacco, beets, cotton, soybeans, vegetables and greens, pistachios, walnuts, figs, grapes and pome and stone fruit trees. Because this compound is rapidly hydrolyzed in the digestive tract, it has weak digestive toxicity and, by affecting the sodium channel, disrupts the transmission of nerve signals. This toxin has also been reported to have repellent properties. Therefore, it prevents pests from approaching sprayed plants.
